Aquamarine has been used by the ancient Romans as protection against the perils of the sea. According to legend, the Roman god of the sea, Poseidon, sent a jewel-encrusted chariot pulled by seahorses over the cresting ocean waves with an Aquamarine gemstone in tow every full moon.
